Lately I’ve been:
- Having people over. Because, seriously? The weather is getting awesome here. Last weekend we had some friends over for a BBQ and swimming, and the random selection of guests turned out to be perfect. There were two little girls playing with my old barbie dolls and showing each other to swim, and two precious little babies I was planning to kidnap.

- Dreaming about Europe. Jed and I are booked to go in June, and I can hardly wait! Check out this castle for hire. Isn’t that just the coolest thing ever?
- Wearing glasses. I’ve worn contact lenses for 12 years and my eyes have finally had enough. This week I’ve been adjusting to wearing glasses and trying not to trip over things (losing your peripheral vision to glasses sucks!). It’s also been a huge thing for me to wear my glasses – after all, the last time I had to wear them I was thirteen. But it’s much better than going blind from damaging my corneas..
- Drinking lots of tea and writing lots of words. My novel is coming along beautifully, thanks for asking. I’ve been diving in and doing a bit each day in the lead up to my xmas holidays, when I’ll be hunkering down at my desk and finishing the thing. Bam! I can’t wait to print it off and start editing it. Words of encouragement appreciated
- Gymming it. I’m so very proud, sore and tired. Mentally, feeling a lot better. Physically, ouch.
This month I will…
- Get a 2011 calendar and start organising next year in advance. With weddings to attend, friends babies being born, birthdays, European vacations, novels to submit to publishers and lots of goals to knock over, it’s already looking like a busy year.
- Take more photos. I got a Canon rebel a few months ago and I’m amazed at the picture quality. The colours and richness of the photos I take (even on auto mode!) are just great. December is full of stuff, so I’m going to tote my camera everywhere with me and capture more of this lovely life.
- Relax. Drink some wine. Eat some delicious food. Host a family get-together on boxing day.
- Finish a novel.
- Smile more!

So where was I?
Oh, yeah. We arrived in Maui, went to our gorgeous little octagon room, and settled ourselves in.

We went grocery shopping to fill the kitchen for the six days we would be there, and grabbed some wine, corn chips and a delicious pot of olive hommus from the local general store in Makawao.

We settled in on our balcony and watched the flickering lights of the houses down the volcano, below where we were.

It got cold pretty quick at that elevation, so we soon took our wine and our snacks inside and just chilled out.

The next day, we awoke to rain. It was freezing in the morning halfway up a volcano! Luckily the place supplied slippers and robes, or we would have frozen.

So, we dressed for the cold, jumped in the car, and drove into Lahaina to get our marriage license.

Legal matters dealt with, we decided to mosey over to Bubba Gump for lunch.

After lunch, we set off to find the last two pieces of the wedding puzzle – flowers for me and a suit for Jed.
The flowers we found pretty easily, and they were exactly what I’d always wanted. I’m still so sad I couldn’t bring them home, but the quarantine laws in Australia don’t allow it.
Last stop: Find a suit to hire. We drove all around Maui (at least that’s what it felt like!) with me getting more panicked and almost sobbing on the sidewalk, as three stores we went to had closed down. We rushed back to the car and high-tailed it across town to the last hire place on the list, just as they were closing the doors. It was ten mionutes to five and I begged the lady to just go to a rack and pull out the first black suit in Jed’s size.
Thankfully, she was a nice lady and got a suit for us. She even altered it to fit properly practically on the spot!

We went home, ate some bow-tie pasta (yum!) drank some more wine, marveled at the sparkly stars overhead, and then went to bed, eager for the next afternoon to arrive…
I can’t wait to share our wedding photos with you tomorrow!
Here’a a lil sneak peek:

Back to the Hawaii recap!
We arrived in Maui, for a week of relaxation and fun. First stop, car rental place.
We hired this little beast:

and set off in search of our little octagon room.
It was a quick drive, maybe 30 minutes on roads with cool names (Ko’okinake highway) before we found the purple mailbox that was our signal to turn. We coasted down the long driveway, parked, and found this:

It was Sunday when we arrived, and our lovely little wedding ceremony was only two more sleeps away…
